There is a martial arts breaking tournament that was held in FL. I watched it in the morning and I've been trying to figure out the name of the tournament and trying to get the video for it. If anyone can find a link for that tournament or get to it's website. Anything will help. Thanks.

the show was -The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom Finale

How does a person become a hitman?(more inside,serious answers)?

What does a born hitman do as a kid? What skills does he study?

By hitman I mean like Jason Bourne. How did he become so skilled? But those are movies. Let's talk reality. What skills would you need?

I have listed Martial Arts, Free Running, Gun expert.

BQ: Where do you go if you want to learn how to handle guns but not use them in your future jobs?

go to one of the places that sells guns. they can tell you where to go for some gun classes or just googles some gun ranges in your area. but like in my area you have to be 21 and older to go.
I wouldnt prefer hitman. What about detective?

types of martial arts and how they are done?

June 29th, 2009 admin 13 Comments »

i want to start taking martial atrs but dont know which one to take let alone the names. i want to know what they are like jabs and punches or dangerous stuff things like that. one that i would like to learn about most is where you can like paralize someone with jabs or something

you people really need to learn to use the search function or at least look down the page and see the other questions that are the same

secondly and more important then any thing martial arts is NOT for paralyzing people it is for self defense. if this is your goal stay out of my dojo,

most people will tell you there style is the best or they heard such and such is a great style,
the style is not important, what matters is how good your instructor is and how you train. the style is secondary, they all have there pro's and con's there are no superior styles, or perfect technique.

you size, weight and age have nothing to do with the style that is right for you, its what you feel comfortable in, some people can use kung fu better then karate other are better at karate then kung fu, some will prefer japanese jujutsu. it more about what you prefer then and find better to fit your movements

How does standing meditation (taiji, xingyi, yiquan) lead to martial arts qualities?

June 29th, 2009 admin 2 Comments »

How does standing meditation (zhanzhuang) practice lead to qualities that benefit the practitioner in self-protection situations, like a strong root, balance sensitivity and various experiences of power?

Is there a scientific model that explains how?

I already got some great info about how standing leads to a healthier body, thanks so much! Now, why does it also work to make you good at protecting yourself?

Standing meditation on its own will not lead the practitioner to greater heights of martial ability. However it is an essential tool in the arsenal of training techniques of the internal martial artist.

In a nutshell, before you can control your opponent you must first learn to control yourself. Before you can know your opponent you must first know yourself. Coming to terms with yourself is first found in stillness, then you must seek this stillness in movement, and then later seek this stillness again in a combative situation.

This can be likened to the qualities of balance and grounding (or rooting). Balance in any martial art style is a strict requirement. Likewise, in the detail oriented internal martial arts this is trained in stillness first (zhan zhuang, static postures, drills, etc) and then in the forms, and later in contact elements like push hands and various forms of sparring.

Standing (and it isn't mindless standing) provides a platform to sensitize and refine our perceptions to these and many other qualities that are necessary for the martial arts and health.

Join Special Forces, or SEALS, or MARSOC, or Rangers, or Marine Force Recon. They'll teach you what you need.

You'll learn to be fearless. Jump out of airplanes, repel from helicopters, do first aide, hand to hand combat, sniping, explosives, camouflage, infiltration.

If you don't want to enlist. That learn Krav Maga, Buy a gun and go to a firing range, buy the anarchist cook book.

Or you can become a police officer, and make deals with criminal organizations. You'll run into a lot of criminals being a cop.

Once you get out you can always post an add on Craigslist saying "Will do anything for money", you can't get arrested because that could mean anything. Also list your skills on the add. It will catch the attention of somebody.

Ethnic Stereotyping.Your views on it!!!?

June 29th, 2009 admin 1 Comment »

I personally am sick of it. Especially overused stereotyping and fixed ideas, the way people assume your personality because of maybe your background or your interests, maybe due to people culture.
Here are some I've noticed portrayed in the media, mostly television programmes:
in America if you are black you were seen in slave type roles for most of the 20th century and your favourite foods were fried chicken and
watermelon, that or you live in a ghetto with no education, talk in slang, wear "bling" and are involved in criminal gangs
People from Southern Europe such as Italy or Greece, like in my big fat greek wedding, portrayed with more or less dark hair/eyes so they all look the same with large families who own restaurants - Bull S***, I have a friend of Italian descent who is fair skinned with auburn hair, and no her family aren't a Mafia gang or owners of a pizza restaurant, while she got asked things like that constantly at school, even by some of our teachers!
Asians seen as either being super intelligent and good at school or doing martial arts with a family that owns a convenience store or a takeway
Peoples prejudices:
Since 9/11 and the London bombings fear that a Muslim person sitting on the bus or on a plane has some sort of explosive device hidden in their bag
I am 1/4 German and 1/4 Austrian, people found it funny to do Nazi salutes in front of me and ask if I was related to Hitler. Hahahahahaha….no

I could go on and on and on. You may have different opinions but this is my personal one, that ethnic stereotyping is a main cause for hatred and phobias of different cultures and ethnic groups. And the media doesn't help by perpetuating those sort of ideas by using ethnic stereotypes in film and television either, people might find that enjoyable and funny but in the end that just reinforces the ideas. It makes me annoyed that some of us can't seem to see past those ideas and discover that not everyone, from whatever background they may come from is like the way people belonging to their culture and minority are sometimes portrayed as, sure there might be loads of people who fit the stereotypes but that doesn't apply to EVERYONE. Who agrees with me?

you are so right. couldn't have put it better myself.

Which mouthguard would you all recommend plus other equipment?

June 29th, 2009 admin 6 Comments »

I just started training in boxing, kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts. Which mouthguard would you all recommend. My mouth is not the straigtest so I would have to mold my own right? What kind of cup would you recommend as well? And what kind of Shind guards would you recommend? Also what is a Rashguard? Is it worth it? They look like tight shirts?

Mouth Guard - I like the Brain Pad Pro Double- it covers both top and bottom teeth. It's hard to talk through but it words great for me. It is a "boil and bite" style, which means you boil it in hot water, then put it in your mouth and mash it up against your teeth to "customize" it. It's not perfect, but it works fairly well. You may need a custom one for competition, but Brain Pad will be fine for training.

As far as a cup, I like to wear compression shorts with a cup rather than a jock strap. I wear Under Armour and Shock Doctor - They both fit comfortably and work fine for me, so either brand is good.

Shin Guards - I wear Throwdown (Title MMA) but there are lots of good ones - Fairtex are great but expensive, and Revgear are really easy to put on and take off. Some guys swear by Tapout, but I think they are overpriced.

A rashguard IS basically a tight shirt that you would wear for grappling mainly. It keeps things from rubbing against your skin while rolling. (The mat can rub against you causing "mat-rash" or "mat burn" - guards help to minimize it.) Also, if you do MMA "no gi" tshirts can get torn, pulled, etc. so wearing a tight shirt is good. I wear my rash guard when I'm grappling with a gi, too - it keeps the gi from chafing so much. I have Under Armour and Rupture rash guards. Rupture is AWESOME and way cheaper than most other ones that I've tried on (it's about $30.00 and really well made.) I recommend a rash guard, but it's not essential.
